We are a foster-based rescue so our dogs and cats are located in foster homes across Eastern Iowa. We also have some cats and kittens located at the adoption center at PetSmart in SW Cedar Rapids (Westdale Pkwy). 

Adoption Process

Our adoption screening process is as follows:

1. Potential adopters should complete the adoption application at the link below: https://heroshavenanimalrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms
2. We will do a background check and contact your personal references as well as your vet reference if you currently have or have had pets in your home. When we check with with your vet, we will confirm your current pets are altered and up to date on vaccines.
3. We may do an adoption interview and/or request a home visit.
4. If/when approved as an applicant, a meet and greet with your preferred animal will be arranged to ensure it is a good fit for both you and the dog or cat.

Adoption Fees*

Kittens: $150
Adult cats: $125
Puppies: $350
Adult dogs: $300

*The fees listed are our standard adoption fees for animals in our care. Each animal's fee is determined by a number of factors and may be adjusted up or down from the fees stated above. Check the animal's profile and/or inquire with us about a specific animal's fee if you have questions. 

Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit animal rescue. We do not receive any funding from any municipality. We fully vet animals before adoption (health exam, spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, 4DX or FIV/FeLV test, deworming, etc.) Our vet expenses exceed the revenue we bring in for adoption fees and the costs to an adopter are less than if they were to have to vet an animal themselves.
