This cutie came to us from an overcrowded shelter down South where he was facing euthanasia for space/length of stay. His brother and kennel mate died in the shelter and he spent a few weeks mostly all by himself before finding rescue. This was hard on him and it took him a bit of time to come out of his shell once he was in a foster home here in Iowa last month. He has since bonded closely with his foster mom and although he can be a bit shy with new people he is starting to warm up quickly and has been happily meet new friends recently!
Huck is a smart boy who listens well. He has been going to training 2x per week to work on basic obedience and build his confidence. He will also be partaking in some daycare to further socialize with other dogs but has done great with all dogs that he's met including the three others in his foster home. Huck does need monitored with the other foster pup his age in his foster home when they are playing with high-value toys or chews as he doesn't always like to share but this has improved greatly as he's learned that the treats and toys will keep coming and aren't going to be taken from him.
We think Huck would do just fine as an only dog as he bonds tightly with his people and always wants to be near them but he'd also do great with a confident adult canine sibling! He does well with the cats in his foster home too!
