Gerry is *finally* ready to find her forever home!

This sweet girl came to us as a young kitten last spring with traumatic injuries of unknown cause. A severe inguinal hernia (her intestines were in her leg) and a fractured left front leg. She required two hernia repair surgeries to save her life as the first repair didn’t hold. She had a rough recovery from these surgeries, taking months to get to a point where she felt good and really put on weight and grew like a kitten normally would. Meanwhile, the best option for her leg was to let it heal with cage rest and it seemed to do so.

Fast forward to last winter when she was around 8 months old and thriving when her formerly fractured leg started giving her problems. She initially developed a slight limp. With time it became clear her leg was bowing and not growing properly. Surgical options were explored but likely wouldn’t have worked to restore function to her leg and/or would have left her in pain now or in the future. Gerry’s leg was amputated in early April.

Thank you to Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids for helping us save Gerry’s life by taking her case back when she was just a baby and being there for her again when she needed her leg amputated!

As her history shows, Gerry is resilient. She has hardly been phased by becoming a tripod. She still attempts to use her little nub occasionally to climb or cover her waste in the litter box but she is more mobile than ever without the non-functioning limb holding her back. She runs and jumps with relative ease. She seems more comfortable and content.

Gerry is a playful, curious cat. She is a lot of fun. She is also very sweet and will seek attention and cuddle up with you. She can be a little shy at first but warms up pretty quickly. She is great with other cats and does well with dogs too. We think she’d enjoy a home with kids as well.
She is spayed, current on vaccines, FIV/FeLV negative and microchipped.
