Say hello to Emori!
This beautiful, intelligent two year old Dalmatian is looking for her forever home. She has some unique behavioral needs though so her home and owner need to be the right fit for her. Read on for more information!
Emori has food aggression. She is currently in the very capable hands of one of our trainers where she has learned the commands she needs to keep her and her owner safe. With this professional training, Emori has come to accept her food being handled. For example, her trainer has taught her a "back" command that can be used when placing her food down, halting her in the middle of her eating, or picking up her bowl afterwards. Since making this progress with training, she has not growled, snarled, grumbled or given any negative body reaction to her trainer. We are so proud of her!
However, Emori does and will test boundaries with people she is less familiar with or if you don’t have a firm tone with her. In the presence of her trainer, she is an angel. Unfortunately her trainer cannot be adopted with her so she will need an experienced owner who is well versed in "dog language" and who will follow the “rules” that are set forth by her trainer to set her up for success as she transitions into her forever home.
Because she knows her best, Emori's trainer will be involved in screening interested adopters and if a good fit is found will teach her new family how to use the commands she knows that will set her up for success.
Outside of the food aggression, Emori is a gem of a dog. She is sweet and social. Her trainer has had her around many people as well as dogs of all sizes and ages and she does well. We do, however, feel she will do best as the only pet in her new home due to the food aggression issues which can cause her to be possessive of food and treats with other dogs too. However, she loves to play with other dogs and would do great if given the opportunity to have play dates when food is not present. In the right home with the right owner, she could live with another dog and be fed separately.
We also feel because of the food aggression issues that she needs to go to a home without children.
She will do best in a home with a fenced yard as well as she is a bit of a bolter if she is not on a leash or tie-out or wearing an e-collar.
