Nabisco came from a shelter in Georgia who took him in as part of a severe neglect case. His foster has done most of the really hard work of getting him healed up both physically and mentally, though he's still working on trust and the transition to a new home will likely be a bit difficult. He will benefit greatly from being able to be with other dogs who will be friendly towards him. He will need patience and understanding from an adopter, someone who is in it for the long haul to earn his trust after all he's been through... someone who sees his potential but also accepts him for who he is.
This is what his foster mom had to say about him:
This is the joy of fostering - watching a terrified, hurting little boy turn into a healthy, happy 3 year old hanging out with the pack! Nabisco came to HH from Georgia, along with Reggie and Moe. Although he was not heartworm positive, Nabisco was full of scabs from a skin infection and literally hid in the corner of his crate shaking from fear. Trips to the vet were traumatic for him but the meds worked and his skin is clear of infection and his red hair (he is a natural ginger) is growing back! His beagle buddies (foster fails from other rescues) now show Nabisco how to live in a house and take care of business outside. He has learned to lay around on the couch and bark at the mailman when his foster sister says it is time. Nabisco is still learning to trust people but that will come.
